Redshirt junior offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi was selected by the Washington Football Team with the 51st overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Cosmi, a 6-foot-6, 314-pound lineman with a 33-inch vertical and 10.25-inch hands, started 34 straight games for the Longhorns beginning with the second game of the 2018 season. He provided consistent protection at both right and left tackle throughout his career, manning Sam Ehlinger’s blindside in 2019 and 2020.

Cosmi received several honors during his Texas career, including second team All-America honors in 2020. He also was named to the Big 12’s first team in 2020 after being named to the second team in 2019.

In 2020, Cosmi started the first eight games at left tackle before opting out of the remainder of the season in order to prepare for the NFL draft. A consistent protector at offensive tackle, Cosmi rushed for a touchdown in 2019 at West Virginia on a trick play.

Cosmi originally committed to the University of Houston during his senior year but flipped to Texas after Tom Herman took over in 2016. He had competing offers from Memphis and TCU.

He becomes the first offensive lineman from Texas selected in the NFL draft since the Dallas Cowboys took Connor Williams in the 2018 draft, and is the ninth Longhorn lineman selected since the 2000 draft.
